Western Sydney Celebrates Winter

Written by on 6 July 2019

Despite the cold and rain, many Western Sydney siders attended the opening night of the annual Winterlight Festival yesterday. The festival is celebrating its ninth year at Parramatta as we head into winter.

“Winterlight is a captivating experience for the senses. There is no better way to enjoy winter,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said. “With Sydney’s largest ice rink; live shows, amazing food stalls and a huge range of family-friendly activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

The festival will feature an unlimited ice-skating and carnival rides deal for just $35pp, plus a dazzling Ice Queen stilt-walking display. One of the most popular events ‘Theme Nights’ has made a comeback this year, running every Thursday. Make a love song dedication to your ice-skating partner during Date Night on Thursday, 11 July or cover yourself in glow-in-the-dark paint for Neon Night on Thursday, 18 July.

Winterlight 2019 also includes Morphology; a sensory infused public art made entirely of interactive LED wires and daily cabaret shows by Bamboozled Productions. Payce Light-Up St Pat’s will be making a grand comeback by illuminating the St Patrick’s Cathedral from Saturday, 6 July to Sunday, 21 July with colourful projections exploring the concept of Hope.

Winterlight is a captivating experience for the senses. There is no better way to enjoy winter.

The Parramatta Night Markets will also be running from Monday, 8 July to Thursday, 11 July with artisan products from Parramatta and beyond. The Alpine Food Village will have a range of delicious food options from stalls such as Blackbear BBQ, Zahara Grill, Waffle Pops and Gelato Messina.

So bring your kids, family and friends to explore the largest ice-rink in Sydney. Children with special needs will have their sessions at the beginning of each day with ‘Kanga’ helpers on hand.

Head to Winterlight on Tuesdays between 11am – 5pm for significant savings, with two-for-one value deals on all carnival rides, food offering and ice-skating.
