Sam Cooke was one of history’s most important soul singers. He pioneered the genre which led to the rise of Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and also popularized the likes of Otis Redding and James Brown.
Cooke appealed to all audiences – black and white – including the parents of teenagers.
