Interview with Tremayne Murphy

Born in Dublin Ireland in April 1975 Tremayne immigrated to Melbourne Australia with his family at the ripe young age of 14 in August of 1989.

An obsessed Bagpiper with an All-Ireland Solo Championship Title at the age of 12, Tremayne upon arriving in Australia was offered a position playing with world famous Victoria Police Pipe Band.

Tremayne completed High School whilst also competing and playing concerts to sold out audiences around the world with the Victoria Police Pipe Band.

Some Highlights include:

• 1989 – 1991 Australian Champions
• 1991: World Champions
• 1991: BBC Concert Belfast
• 2 x CD Albums Released

Tremayne studied Arts at La-Trobe University with a keen interest in solving the problems of the world through social anthropology, philosophy and experimental music composition.

With a new-found zest for exploration and hedonism Tremayne moved from playing traditional folk music to establishing his own contemporary band ‘Mumonkan’ (Zen– The Gateless Gate) with a fellow piper, jazz drummer and rock guitarist.

Inspired by the new underground electronic music scene, the guys soon set their minds to creating a sound that encapsulated everything they loved…… yes with bagpipes
